Frequently Asked Questions - Massage:

What is Massage Therapy?
The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body, treatment and prevention of dysfunction, injury, pain and physical disorders, and, by manual and physical methods, develop and rehabilitate physical function to relieve pain and promote health.

Do I need to undress for my massage therapy?
Depending on the massage techniques, you may or may not need to undress. For techniques that require the application of oil or lotion, direct skin contact is ideal. You will be asked to undress to your comfort level. I will leave the room while you undress and drape yourself with a sheet and blanket. I will knock before entering the room and I will only undrape the areas that are being actively worked on.
It is also possible to do a full and thorough massage session without undressing, as many of the massage techniques do not require oil. I suggest that you bring a sport bra and shorts, or other moveable, comfortable type of clothing if you wish to receive your treatment with clothes on.

What should I do during the massage therapy?
The most important thing is to make yourself comfortable. I will have pillows, blankets and music to help you relax. It is also important to focus on your breathing. During the session, if I need you to move to a different position, I will either move you or tell you to move. At any time, feel free to let me know if you need to move to a more comfortable position. Do not hesitate to ask questions during the session.
